“Angst about the body robs a woman in some large share of her creative life and attention to other things.”
— Clarissa Pinkola Estes

The Body Project is an on-going series of paintings, prints, and patterns inspired by local female contributors. I engage with each contributor through a series of interviews + sittings, holding space for her as she explores her relationship to her body and her self.

This project was born from observing the lack of acceptance many womxn demonstrate toward their bodies. Through the project, I seek to diffuse the shame so many carry towards their bodies, encouraging a deeper sense of connection and compassion toward one’s self.

I believe that a womxn who feels comfortable and confident in her skin is better situated to go out into the world and accomplish the things that matter to her.

“A culture fixated on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty, but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women’s history.”
— Naomi Wolf
