Each collage is hand-cut and made from 100% cotton paper, handmade in India from recycled textiles.

This collection came about while I was working on a self-portrait based 100 Day Project. I’d challenged myself to see how many different ways I could create something based on the same image.

As I iterated, I became fascinated with ways to simplify the portrait, and began flattening the form into solid shapes, letting the empty space around each one serve as the lines of the piece.

It reminded me of water and landforms on a topography map, and inspired me to recreate the portrait as a collage, giving layers of depth of the stretches of flatness and becoming a collection unto itself. A project inside a project.
