ABOUT THE PAINTINGS

During a heatwave in Maine this summer, I moved my art supplies into my bedroom and started working in bed directly next to our apartment’s one window AC.

I didn't want to risk getting paint on my bed, so I grabbed a handful of water-soluble wax pastels and started coloring over some old paintings I'd never been happy with. As I worked, I fell into the kind of absent-minded, flower doodling pattern I've been drawing in the margins of my notebooks since childhood.

I wasn’t trying to do make anything important or especially vulnerable — I was just trying to stay relatively cool and distract myself with cool textures and pretty colors.

I feel so delighted at how bright and soulful the pieces came out! Titles for each piece come from real-life tiny delights — both my own and also ones you submitted from your own lives.
